The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), as a renowned international institution of higher learning, has a vast campus area and a complex building layout, which brings many challenges to signage design. Firstly, the campus has a large number of academic buildings, laboratories, dormitories and public facilities. It is a great challenge to effectively guide new students, visitors and staff to their destinations. Second, the campus is located in a mountainous terrain with winding paths, adding to the difficulty of designing a logical and clear guidance system. In addition, the need for a multilingual environment on campus needed to be fully considered in the signage design to ensure that all users could easily understand the signage content.
Installation and Design Considerations
In order to serve the diversified faculty, students and visitors, we have incorporated bilingual displays in English and Chinese in the signage design, and Japanese and Korean in some important areas to ensure that the signage messages can be understood by users from different language backgrounds. Considering the complexity of the campus of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, we adopted high contrast colors and simple and clear icons in the wayfindingsystemdesign to enhance the visibility and legibility of the signage. Due to the specificity of the campus environment, we chose waterproof and UV-resistant materials for the signs to ensure that they can be used for a long period of time in the outdoor environment. At the same time, we ensured that the signs were mounted securely to avoid damage or falling off due to wind and rain.
DEEPENING THE DESIGN PLAN
Project Design
First of all, we had several detailed communications with the school authorities of the Chinese University of Hong Kong to understand their specific needs and expectations. Based on these needs, we developed a detailed design program. Based on the needs analysis, we carried out a preliminary design, produced a variety of design sketches, and conducted several communications and confirmations with the university to ensure the feasibility and practicability of the design scheme. After the preliminary design was confirmed, we refined the design, including the specific size, color, font and other details of the sign. At the same time, we also considered the practicality of the sign installation to ensure a smooth installation process. After the design was confirmed, we carried out the production and installation of the signs. During the installation process, we strictly followed the design scheme and conducted several tests to ensure the visibility and guiding effect of the signs.

Through these steps, we successfully completed the signage design project for The Chinese University of Hong Kong. This project not only enhances the experience of using the campus environment, but also demonstrates our expertise in wayfindingsystemfactory, wayfindingsignagedesign, wayfindingsystemdesign and wayfindingschool.
