ZIGO - Summary of Signage Design Project for Courtyard by Marriott Shenzhen

The Courtyard by Marriott Shenzhen is a modern, upscale hotel with multi-story buildings and an abundance of internal functional areas. The hotel includes deluxe guest rooms, meeting rooms, restaurants, gymnasium and swimming pool, etc. The design style is simple and fashionable, focusing on details and customer experience. Due to the hotel's multi-story structure and diverse functional areas, the signage system was required to not only provide accurate guidance, but also harmonize with the overall environment.

The various functional areas of the Courtyard by Marriott Shenzhen are widely distributed, so how to effectively guide guests to their target location was the first task of the design. When we designed the signage, we adopted a hierarchical information architecture, from the lobby to the elevators and staircases on each floor, and from the public areas to the private spaces, with clear guidance at every step. As an upscale hotel, the signage not only needs to be functional, but also match the high-end atmosphere of the hotel. We chose high-quality materials such as stainless steel and acrylic, and combined them with modern design elements to ensure that the signage is both aesthetically pleasing and durable. At the same time, the color and font design of the signage is coordinated with the overall decoration style of the hotel to enhance the overall visual effect. In order to ensure that guests can clearly read the signage information in all circumstances, we used high-contrast colors and simple and clear icons. Especially in low-light areas, we added backlighting to ensure that the signs are clearly visible at night.

DEEPENING THE DESIGN PLAN

The safety of the sign installation was our primary concern. We chose solid and durable mounting materials and methods to ensure that the signs would not fall off or be damaged in high-traffic situations. At the same time, we ensure that all edges and corners are rounded to avoid potential injury to guests. We reasonably arranged the installation locations of the signs according to the usage characteristics of different areas. For example, in the lobby and public areas, we installed the signs in eye-catching positions to ensure that guests could see the guidance information as soon as they entered the hotel. In the corridors and stairwells, we rationally arranged the signage according to the flow of people to ensure the consistency and visibility of the guidelines. Considering the hotel's international clientele, we used bilingual displays in the signage design, and added other commonly used languages in some important areas to ensure that all guests could easily understand the signage messages.

We communicated in detail with the management of the Courtyard by Marriott Shenzhen to understand their specific needs and expectations. Based on these needs, we developed a detailed design program. Based on the needs analysis, we conducted a preliminary design, produced a variety of design sketches, and communicated and confirmed with the management several times to ensure the feasibility and practicality of the design solution. After the preliminary design was confirmed, we refined the design, including the specific size, color, font and other details of the sign. At the same time, we also considered the practicality of the sign installation to ensure a smooth installation process. After the design was confirmed, we carried out the production and installation of the signs. During the installation process, we strictly followed the design scheme and conducted several tests to ensure the visibility and guidance of the signs.
